A Lesson To Cry

I push rocks in the desert
and no one can see me
I leave no trace of footsteps
Just dragged dirt behind the stones
The sun does not enter me because I'm in another realm
I existed on this earth long ago
and everyday I cried over you
Until I drowned in a pool of my tears
and woke up in a wasteland
It is a lesson to cry

Tied to all that is familiar
Ashes on the front steps
Neighbours dogs barking outside in the frigid night
The barbeque in the backyard that has been used once, but cost hundreds
My brothers mildew clothes taking up much needed room in the basement
The tired old wooden dressers with the handles missing
The dust collecting on the bookshelves and pictures
Same chicken recipe for dinner with no salt because someone has high blood pressure
Excited to watch reality t.v because they actually go places and do things like
shop for new designer clothes and throw parties with swans in the swimming pool
The height of my week is to go grocery shopping and buy coffee cream on sale
Mama just yelled about the ashes on the front steps
Maybe my life just got too simple
Tired of complacency
I need a vacation
Where lovers kiss on cathedral steps and the sun always shines on them
Locks are locked on fences to express devotion
I want to cuddle with the dolphins
And run with the bulls
all while forgetting about the familiar

Love,

Before I Let You Know

I use to love rainy days until I had to smoke outside
An excuse to be alfresco and revel in my adulthood
In rain, sleet or snow
I remember the air being much fresher and the sky being much bluer as a child
Now I inhale all the poisons and feel calmer
Contemplating another decision
To change for you
If you change for me

Please change for me
and I will change for you....

Love,

m.

What Remains

We are broken,
Torn sideways and cut loose
Searching for fallen fragments under your obstacles
Holding onto what remains
Just trying to piece a puzzle together
Pieces that have been lost or stolen in time

Mend me with the gold in your being
Let it bond the chips and fill the cracks
For we are more beautiful for being damaged
Our story repaired with wrinkles and grey hair

Immaculate

When love is for strangers
and the past has no echo
Nowhere to return
Lovers can feel free to forecast the future
No chance of regret,
forgetting about those who came before
Then there are those who have had no previous dalliances
Everything is new and green with just the
storybook expectations that use to keep them hopeful at night
What if he doesn't believe her
because he had never met a beautiful virtuous mature lady before
Will he spend his time brooding over a past
When their wasn't one
Questioning her about the boys she new before him
The ones who had scared her away
Never sharing her sweet elixir that smelled like the earth after it rained

For Cynthia

She has lost her lover, he has passed away
A sudden silence has penetrated her soul
All she feels is a rapid heartbeat and tears
All the mind wants to hear is a voice, his voice
Telling her to one day seek the peace he has now found
That she will find it in the memories of the tenderness of his eyes
And she will be with him again whenever she closes hers
Finding tranquility in these waves of reflection
No love can ever be taken, it transforms

Love,

Marisa

Why I Cry

When there's no colour, I get the blues
Seeing power with no morals -
Beware of the water
Hearing racist blurbs on talk radio
while the war goes on
Another brother killed by authority
with no consequences other than a pay check
City money for stadiums but not to feed the poor
The bullying in social media
Gossiping to destroy any character she had left
Succumbing to lust over love -
The death of loyalty
When there's no colour, I get the blues

Gales of Devotion

The brontide of our thunderous romance makes me appreciate when your love reigns
Relieving the fire that the lightening had sparked
We always clean up after the storm
Do you stay and fight or leave and be free?
It's the memories within that hold us
I remember cooking a four cheese lasagna together on Saturday's
A recipe we found in a book from Goodwill
Bellies full, glasses empty and happy
You are my home in the path of the storm
Will we survive?
